"My two years as a fellow were some of the most profound personal and professional years of my life so far. Choosing to participate in the fellowship was the single best decision I've made in my local government career and I can confidently say I wouldn't be where I am today without the experiences I gained as a fellow. The access to meetings, people and first hand experience working on and managing high level projects at such an early stage of my career has set a strong foundation for the confidence in which I approach my work today."

Alumni

Our fellows come from all over the United States and go on to promising careers. Many stay with the City while others go on to apply the 'Kansas City way' in new communities.

Leadership Commitment

The fellowship has made a lasting impact on many of our department directors. The City's leadership team has seen firsthand the value of bringing new ideas and perspectives to our organization. Their continued support of the program ensures our fellows are well positioned to make an impact and maximize their professional growth. Below, you can find out how our directors see the Cookingham-Noll Fellowship.

"As Finance Director for Kansas City, Missouri, I believe the Cookingham-Noll Management Fellowship offers a great value proposition to all participants.  Once selected, fellows are required to assist in the City’s annual financial planning and budget process and may elect to take a deeper dive into other financial areas including accounting, banking, credit, development finance and tax collection.  Over the years, Cookingham Noll fellows have delivered valuable work products supporting our efforts in cash handling, debt management, public engagement and long-term financial planning.  Selfishly, I really enjoy observing this annual collision of opportunity and talent.  Historically, many of the Kansas City region’s future governmental leaders have gotten their start in this program."
